The hot topic these days is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which will be the future of almost every workplace, or at least, is expected to take over countless repetitive tasks, thereby freeing up human time for higher-value tasks. In the current research, after introducing ChatGPT (modern AI chatbot) and its advantages in engineering, we are looking for an answer to whether using ChatGPT can effectively facilitate the calculations of a mechanical engineer in practice. Is this technology a blessing or a bane in engineering? For this purpose, the use of ChatGPT in solving several mechanical problems was implemented in two different periods (with a difference of 1 year) and their results were analyzed. According to the results, ChatGPT's number of errors in solving mechanical problems has been greatly reduced after one year (about 75 %), which shows this tool's rapid progress. However, using ChatGPT to solve mechanical calculation problems is not recommended but also incorporating human expertise in using these tools in mechanical engineering can help overcome some of the challenges
