Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Modares Mechanical Engineering is committed to maintaining integrity, transparency, fairness, accountability, and reliability in scholarly publishing.

The journal follows internationally recognized principles of publication ethics and relevant guidance issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work.

Plagiarism includes inappropriate use of another person's text, ideas, data, methods, images, or results without appropriate attribution.

Text recycling and redundant publication are evaluated according to their extent, context, transparency, and effect on the scholarly record.

Similarity-detection software may be used as a screening tool. A similarity percentage alone does not determine whether plagiarism has occurred.

Fabrication and Falsification

Fabrication, falsification, inappropriate data manipulation, misleading image manipulation, or deliberate suppression of material findings is prohibited.

The journal may request original data, analysis files, images, numerical models, code, or other documentation when concerns regarding reliability arise.

Authorship

Authorship must reflect genuine scholarly contributions.

Honorary, gift, ghost, and guest authorship are prohibited.

Authors should provide a CRediT contributor statement.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose financial or nonfinancial interests that could reasonably affect or appear to affect their judgment.

Citation Ethics

Citations must be selected for legitimate scholarly reasons.

The following practices are prohibited:

·         Coercive citation

·         Citation manipulation

·         Irrelevant journal self-citation

·         Unnecessary author self-citation

·         Citation cartels

·         Citation requests intended primarily to influence metrics

Peer Review Manipulation

Fabricated reviewer identities, false email addresses, impersonation, review rings, or other attempts to manipulate peer review constitute serious publication misconduct.

Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

MME is committed to maintaining an accurate and reliable scholarly record.

A formal correction should be published when an otherwise reliable article contains an error affecting:

·         Interpretation

·         Authorship

·         Affiliations

·         Data

·         Equations

·         Numerical results

·         Figures

·         Tables

·         Bibliographic information

An Expression of Concern may be issued when credible concerns regarding the reliability or ethical status of an article remain unresolved.

An article may be retracted when its findings are substantially unreliable as a result of major error or misconduct, including fabrication, falsification, substantial plagiarism, unethical research, redundant publication, or manipulation of peer review.

Retracted articles should remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record but must be clearly marked Retracted and permanently linked to the retraction notice.

Relevant DOI and bibliographic metadata should be updated accordingly.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors and readers may submit complaints regarding editorial conduct, peer review, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, unreasonable delay, research integrity, or post-publication actions.

Authors may appeal an editorial decision when they believe that a significant factual, procedural, ethical, or interpretive error materially affected the decision.

Appeals must identify the specific issue and provide supporting evidence.

Complaints concerning the Editor-in-Chief must be handled by an independent representative of the publisher or an unconflicted senior editor.

Artificial Intelligence Policy

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, references, calculations, code, images, and conclusions of submitted work.

Substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies should be disclosed in the manuscript.

AI-generated references must be independently verified against the original sources.

Authors must not upload confidential, proprietary, restricted, or unpublished material to unauthorized AI systems.

Reviewers and editors must preserve manuscript confidentiality and must not upload submitted manuscripts, data, figures, or correspondence to unauthorized public AI tools.

AI-assisted administrative or technical processes may support editorial work but may not replace accountable human scientific and editorial judgment.

Research Data and Data Availability

Original research articles should contain a Data Availability statement.

Authors are encouraged to make data, numerical models, analysis code, experimental protocols, algorithms, and other materials necessary to verify the published findings available when legally, ethically, and technically possible.

Data should preferably be deposited in an appropriate trusted repository with a persistent identifier.

If data cannot be shared publicly, the reason and access conditions should be stated.

Handling complaints and appeals

Modares Mechanical Engineering follows COPE Guidelines for handling complaints against the journal, its staff, editorial board, or publisher. All appeals should be directed to the Editor-in-Chief, who may decide to seek advice from the Subject Editors or the Editorial Board. If the authors wish to request a journal editor’s decision, please submit a request letter to the journal’s online editorial office. Please clearly explain the basis for your appeal to the editor and why you disagree with the editor’s and/or reviewers’ decision. The authors must provide clear responses (new information, new data, any evidence, or conflicts of interest) to any comments that contributed to the rejection decision.
