Lift-type Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) operate independently of wind direction and are suitable for use in residential areas. However, aerodynamic complexities, such as continuous variations in the angle of attack and flow-blade interactions, make performance prediction challenging for both engineering models and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. The Double Multiple Stream-tube (DMST) model is an engineering method that requires negligible computational cost compared to other engineering approaches. It is utilized to predict the performance of lift-type VAWTs by combining momentum theory and blade element theory to derive induced velocities in both upwind and downwind phases. The accuracy of these predictions under various operating conditions is a subject of debate that requires further investigation. In this study, this method is briefly introduced, and in addition to assessing its accuracy, the effects of various corrections on result precision are examined for two wind turbines with different dimensions and Reynolds number ranges. The obtained results are then compared with experimental data. These corrections include the application of virtual camber effects, stream-tube expansion, and post-stall data corrections. The results showed that the use of corrective methods can improve the accuracy of the classic DMST method by up to 77%. It can be inferred that correcting the post-stall data has the greatest effect on improving the accuracy of the results.
